Nick Smith MP celebrated Labour’s landslide 2024 General Election win with local party members at Bedwellty House Tredegar.
Mr Smith was also celebrating being re-elected for the fifth time, this time in the new Blaenau Gwent & Rhymney seat.
The General Election on Thursday, July 4 saw Mr Smith gain Labour’s biggest majority in Wales.
The results were:

  • Nick Smith (Labour) 16,027
  • Niamh Salkeld (Plaid Cymru) – 3,844
  • Hannah Elizabeth Jarvis (Conservatives) – 3,776
  • Mike Whatley (Independent) – 2,409
  • Anne Baker (Green Party) – 1,719
  • Jackie Charlton (Lib Dem) – 1,268
  • Yas Iqbal (Workers Party) – 570
  • Robert Griffiths (Communist Party of Britain) – 309

Mr Smith and local party members marked the historic Labour win with a get together at which Mr Smith thanked the many volunteers for their support during the campaign.

He said: “Isn’t it great to have had such a terrific election result? This is about thanking everybody for  helping achieve these great results here and across the country.
“Here we had the biggest Labour majority of over 12,000 and we contributed to a win in Monmouthshire for Labour.
“We have a large majority in UK Parliament and are now able to put our values into action.”
