Having local businesses sign up to become official ‘forces-friendly employers’ would be a fantastic way to mark the upcoming 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings, as well as Armed Forces Day next month.

I have written to some of Blaenau Gwent’s leading local firms to encourage them to sign up to the Armed Forces Covenant and would love for many more to get involved.

The Armed Forces Covenant is a promise from the people of the UK and the UK Government to those who have served that they will be treated fairly, will have no disadvantage compared to anyone else and that, when appropriate, will receive special consideration.

There’s a lot of support for the Covenant but only around 24% of organisations have heard of it, so it would be great if we could all help spread the word.

I know that at least one local business – Cwmtillery Glass Centre – has signed up recently and I would love to get more businesses involved.

The Covenant can be signed by businesses of any kind, as well as other organisations and charities.

Please take a look here for more information on how to sign up.
