Students in Blaenau Gwent were called to order after a visit from not just any speaker, but THE speaker of UK parliamentary politics.
The Blaenau Gwent Learning Zone played host to John Bercow MP as part of his Speakers Outreach programme, which aims to take lessons on the importance of politics to the community.
Alongside Nick Smith, MP for Blaenau Gwent, Mr Bercow regaled students from the Coleg Gwent Learning Zone and Ebbw Fawr Learning Community with tales of the rowdy rabbles in the chambers and politics in everyday life.
Speaking after the event, Mr Smith said: “It was great to see the students really engaging with the topic and a privilege to welcome Mr Speaker to Blaenau Gwent.
“I know we come from very different sides of the political spectrum, but the message that there is no reason young people and children from this borough cannot succeed is a universal and important one.
“To see the students asking him unprompted questions well after the talk had finished showed they were taking it all on board and bodes well for the future.
“It was a far more polite crowd than at Prime Minister’s Questions that’s for sure!”
