Nick Smith MP has called for the Crown Prosecution Service to take action after a damning report into Operation Jasmine.

The Blaenau Gwent MP campaigned for the review into the seven-year, £15m investigation after its collapse left families calling for justice.

Now he is backing the Independent Review’s call for the investigation to be referred to the Special Crime and Counter Terrorism Division of the CPS and the full force of the law to be employed.

Mr Smith said: “This is a hard hitting report that exposes the shocking neglect of residents in Dr Das’s care homes.

“My heart goes out to the families who have lived with the knowledge their loved ones went through appalling treatment.

“The report confirms my worst fears, that they were let down by the people they trusted to take care of their family.

“The care home sector and its watchdogs now need to act on these recommendations, or this review will have been for nothing.

“Our loved ones deserve dignity and the best care in the place they call home.”
